Gotham Greens adding spinach to new Chicago greenhouse

CHICAGO, IL - Gotham Greens has expanded its Chicago presence by opening its largest greenhouse yet in the Pullman neighborhood, adding spinach to its range of crops. The new 100,000-square-foot facility more than doubles their Midwest production capacity to an impressive 11 million heads of lettuce annually. This greenhouse is Gotham Greens’ second in the historic Pullman neighborhood and the sixth in the company’s nationwide network.

In this expansion, Gotham Greens continues its commitment to sustainability. The greenhouse employs hydroponic systems powered by 100% renewable electricity, using 95% less water and 97% less land compared to traditional farming. This innovative approach aligns with the company's goal of providing fresh, locally grown produce all year round.

The expansion not only increases production but also boosts employment, with Gotham Greens set to double its workforce to about 100 full-time employees in Chicago and 300 nationwide. Their products, including spinach, leafy greens, herbs, and salad dressings, are available across the Midwest at stores like Whole Foods Market, Target, and Jewel-Osco, making this a significant development in providing fresh, sustainable produce to the region.

This new facility reinforces Gotham Greens' mission to transform how fresh produce is grown, distributed, and consumed, ensuring more people have access to healthy, sustainably grown greens.
