Japanese Festival returns to Missouri Botanical Garden this weekend

ST. LOUIS, MO - The Missouri Botanical Garden is set to host its annual Japanese Festival from August 31 to September 2, transforming the gardens into a vibrant celebration of Japanese culture. Now in its 47th year, the festival is one of the largest of its kind in the United States, offering a rich array of experiences from traditional music and dance to modern culinary delights.

Attendees can explore various aspects of Japanese culture through numerous activities and performances. Highlights include taiko drumming by the St. Louis Osuwa Taiko group, traditional tea ceremonies, and live cooking demonstrations showcasing both classic and contemporary Japanese dishes. Festival-goers can also indulge in a diverse selection of Japanese foods and beverages provided by local vendors, offering everything from sushi to specialty drinks like the festival-exclusive Sakura Rose bubble tea.

The festival is designed to be family-friendly, with activities for all ages, including calligraphy, origami, and a variety of children's workshops. This year's event also introduces the intricate art of wagashi, a type of Japanese confectionery, demonstrated by renowned master Noriyuki Kamiyama.
