Solstice and Park Forest achieve community solar milestones
CHICAGO, IL - Solstice, a pioneering community solar provider, and the Village of Park Forest have made notable strides in their shared mission to bring clean renewable energy to local residents. This partnership's landmark achievements include significant community solar enrollment and a generous donation to bolster sustainability initiatives in Park Forest.
More than 150 Park Forest residents have enlisted in the community solar program since its inception, producing an impressive total renewable energy capacity exceeding 450 kW. This feat has not only positively impacted the environment but also delivered tangible benefits for the community. The carbon emissions reduced by the village's collective efforts equate to preventing the combustion of 357 pounds of coal, significantly aiding in the fight against climate change. Furthermore, income-eligible residents can anticipate up to 50% savings on the supply portion of their electric bill once the system is energized this winter, which is a welcome relief as utility costs continue to rise.
"The hurdles are educating people about the difference between rooftop and community solar and assuring them that this program is legitimate," said Carrie Malfeo, Sustainability Coordinator of the Village of Park Forest. "Unfortunately, there are programs out there that sound good on the surface but end up costing residents more money in the long run. Our program is state-funded, offering savings without hidden fees while supporting local renewable energy creation."
The program's success serves as a testament to the efficacy and inclusivity of community solar, with Solstice proud to expand energy access and support causes that directly benefit the communities it serves. Solstice's donation of over $15,000 will be allocated to various sustainability initiatives in Park Forest, such as extending electric vehicle charging stations and establishing a community composting program, thereby amplifying the village's dedication to environmental stewardship.
"We are proud to partner with the Village of Park Forest and demonstrate that clean energy can be seamlessly integrated into households' energy supply," said Prashanth Siddalingaiah, Partnerships Manager at Solstice. "By enrolling in community solar, residents not only save money but also bring financial benefits to their town while enjoying cleaner air to breathe. Renewable energy is now an accessible and effortless swap that everyone can make."
The Village of Park Forest's community solar program enrollment will stay open until the end of July. Residents are urged to partake in this community-centric initiative that affords an opportunity to contribute to a sustainable future while enjoying personal and communal benefits. This partnership underlines how local communities and solar providers can collaborate to drive forward the renewable energy revolution, while also making a tangible difference in people's lives and the world they inhabit.
