Cheap Trick backed music venue coming to Rockford, IL
ROCKFORD, IL - Rockford, Illinois, is set to welcome a new chapter in its musical legacy with the opening of a live music venue by Miles Nielsen, son of renowned Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen. Together with his wife, singer-songwriter Kelly Steward, Nielsen is bringing an upscale bar and live music space to the heart of downtown Rockford.
The venue, named The Music Box, will be located at 218 E. State Street. It promises a unique blend of elegance and retro charm, featuring a spacious design adorned with historical artifacts and pictures. These elements aim to pay tribute to Rockford's rich musical history. The Music Box is not just a name but a nod to the past, specifically to the original Music Box Gift Shoppe started by Nielsen's grandfather, Ralph Nielsen. This homage extends to the family's legacy in music retail, which included Nielsen Music House and Nielsen Pianos & Organs.
Designed by Studio GWA, an architectural firm also responsible for the new Rockford Public Library, The Music Box is poised to be a significant addition to the city's cultural landscape. While an official opening date has yet to be announced, the venue's preparations are underway, including a request for a liquor license presented to the Rockford City Council.
This new venture by Nielsen and Steward is more than just a business endeavor; it's a continuation of a familial tradition in music and a commitment to enriching the cultural fabric of Rockford. The Music Box is set to become a landmark destination, offering a sophisticated environment for live music enthusiasts and contributing to the city's ongoing downtown revitalization.
