Chicago tops list of global cities people want to move to

CHICAGO, IL - In a recent study by Remitly, a digital remittance service, Chicago has emerged as one of the world’s most coveted cities to move to. The study, which utilized Google search data across 164 countries, revealed that Dubai is the overwhelming favorite relocation destination, topping the list in at least 60 countries, including heavyweights like Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

However, the Windy City has also captured the global imagination, securing a spot among the top 10 cities worldwide that people are eager to move to. Within the United States, Chicago stands as the third most popular city, with at least 10 states showing a preference for relocating there. New York City and Portland, Oregon, are the only two cities ahead of Chicago, each being the top choice for residents of 12 other U.S. states.

The allure of Chicago seems to resonate most strongly in the Midwest. States such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Ohio, Kentucky, and Kansas, along with Vermont and New Hampshire outside the Midwest, are particularly drawn to Chicago’s charm.

This data offers a fascinating glimpse into the aspirations of people around the globe and within the United States. With its vibrant culture, diverse population, and dynamic economy, Chicago’s appeal as a destination city is clearly reflected in the study’s findings. As people continue to search for their ideal city to call home, Chicago’s prominence on this list underscores its status as a major player on the global stage, attracting potential residents from near and far.
