Chicago's Macie Stewart presents new single and video

Chicago singer, songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Macie Stewart (she/they) returns with “Maya, Please,” their first single/video since their debut album, Mouth Full of Glass, released last year via Orindal Records. Following the same sonic path as Mouth Full of Glass’s avante chamber folk, “Maya, Please” is a tender morsel of meditative acoustic balladry, featuring fingerstyle guitar, understated vocals and lushly-arranged strings, all performed by Stewart. The accompanying animated video was drawn and directed by Izzy Vasquez.

“Asking for forgiveness is a central and obvious theme of this song, but much of it is about feeling angry at yourself and asking someone to forgive you when you haven’t yet forgiven yourself,” explains Stewart. “The A part of the song is externalizing the situation, and the B part of the song is sort of an internal monologue of the same thing. I imagine it as one of those imaginary conversations you have in your head while you’re sitting and thinking by yourself. I feel very proud of the string arrangements on this one.

“Maya, Please” is co-presented by Orindal Records, the Chicago, IL label that released the 2021 edition of Mouth Full of Glass, and Full Time Hobby, the UK label that will re-release Mouth Full of Glass outside of North America on November 11. “Maya, Please” is available in North America as a standalone single via Orindal and as a bonus track on Full Time Hobby’s forthcoming edition of Mouth Full of Glass.
