Harris selects Minnesota Govenor Tim Walz as VP pick

MINNESOTA - Vice President Kamala Harris has announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate for the 2024 presidential election. Walz, a veteran, former schoolteacher, and current governor, brings extensive experience to the ticket.

Walz has served as Minnesota's governor since 2018, leading significant legislative achievements. Under his administration, Minnesota has enacted laws on paid family and medical leave, protected abortion rights, implemented universal background checks on firearms, and legalized recreational marijuana..

"Tim is a relentless advocate for working families and a battle-tested leader who has cut taxes for working families, protected fundamental rights, and passed paid family and medical leave," Harris stated in a press release.

Walz's selection aims to strengthen the Democratic ticket's appeal in the Midwest and among blue-collar voters. Known for his relatable demeanor, Walz has a history of connecting with rural communities, which could be crucial in securing votes in key swing states. He has also served over two decades in the Army National Guard and held a congressional seat for over a decade, focusing on veterans' issues.

During his selection process, Walz has been vocal in his criticisms of the Republican ticket, particularly targeting JD Vance, Donald Trump's running mate. "What I know is that people like JD Vance know nothing about small-town America," Walz stated during an interview.

Harris expressed confidence in their ability to win the election, stating, "We start out as underdogs, but I believe together, we can win this election".
